What does UW First Year Seminar Abroad offer?

Join the Sustainability in Action Freshman Interest Group (FIG)! You will

  • live on the same floor in the UW residence halls with students who share your passion for sustainability and the environment,
  • enroll in two sustainability-focused courses with your FIG-mates,
  • develop life-long friendships, and
  • complete your University of Wyoming First Year Seminar (FYS) requirement in COSTA RICA during the J-Term

Ten  Days in Costa Rica with UW's 
Patrick Johnson and Rachael Budowle!

Patrick Johnson has a research program that has focused on new materials and biointerfaces. Research topics have included advanced carbon materials, spider silk biomaterials, SERS biosensors, and immobilized enzyme systems. His teaching interests include biomaterials, biomedical engineering, biochemical engineering, and sustainability topics. He also teaches this study abroad course in Costa Rica on sustainability and systems thinking over the J-term..

 - Patrick Johnson, Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering

Rachael Budowle is an assistant lecturer in the Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources, where she teaches core courses for the Sustainability minor. She co-chairs the Campus Sustainability Committee and works closely with students as the advisor for the Sustainability FIG and Sustainability Coalition. As an anthropologist, her research focuses on community resilience and food systems.
